Mi.Net Mobile Transceiver

The Mi.Net Mobile Transceiver is a high-performance, vehicle-based device designed to collect water meter data through radio frequency while driving meter routes for Automated Meter Reading (AMR).

The complete hardware package includes:

  • Radio transceiver
  • Magnetic roof-mounted antenna
  • Bluetooth® connection module
  • Power and connection cables

Deploying a mobile AMR solution with the Mi.Net Mobile Transceiver can help utilities improve operational efficiency, enhance data collection and analysis, respond more quickly to system alerts, and improve customer service.

Flexible Vehicle Installation

The Mi.Net Mobile Transceiver can be temporarily or permanently mounted in virtually any vehicle. Once installed and initialized, it operates automatically in the background, transferring collected data to a tablet or smartphone application for immediate access.

The system provides near real-time updates by transmitting data from the mobile device to the cloud.

Advanced Data Collection and Control

The Mobile Transceiver supports full two-way communication with field devices, allowing utilities to:

  • Collect meter readings while driving within range of endpoints
  • Actuate Remote Disconnect Meters (RDMs)
  • Initiate data logging
  • Support meter right-sizing initiatives

The system receives signals on multiple frequencies, helping ensure secure and reliable data collection. During route collection, drivers can track progress using map or tabular views that identify meter status, including:

  • Meters remaining to be read
  • Completed meter readings
  • Alert conditions
  • Uncollected meters

Distinct audible tones help drivers quickly identify meter states without needing to constantly view the screen.

Because data is transmitted to the system as it is collected, billing personnel can quickly export the information to the utility’s billing software at the end of the reading cycle.

Reliable Vehicle-Based Operation

The Mobile Transceiver is powered through the vehicle’s auxiliary 12-volt outlet and connects to a mobile device via Bluetooth for data exchange.

A magnetic roof-mounted antenna receives radio frequency (RF) communications from endpoints equipped with Mi.Node M or legacy HotRod nodes. Multiple receiver channels allow the Mobile Transceiver to capture and process incoming data continuously while driving within range of meters.

Mi.Node M endpoints also support two-way communications and can migrate from AMR to AMI if utilities choose to upgrade their system in the future.

Rugged and Easy to Install

The Mi.Net Mobile Transceiver is compact, lightweight, and enclosed in a rugged metal housing designed for field environments. Internal electronics are shielded against electromagnetic interference to ensure consistent performance.

Clearly labeled connections for antenna, Bluetooth, and power simplify installation, while onboard LED indicators provide quick status updates for:

  • Power
  • RF reception
  • Device temperature
Mi.Node M

The Mi.Node M is a full two-way communication device commonly referred to as a Meter Interface Unit (MIU) or node. It connects to Mueller water meters equipped with Mueller encoder registers and enables utilities to collect and transmit meter data in both AMR and AMI systems.

The node temporarily stores consumption data from the meter register and transmits that information through the utility’s metering network.

Flexible AMR and AMI Operation

The Mi.Node M is designed to operate in either AMR or AMI mode.

In AMR deployments, the node broadcasts data at regular intervals for collection by a Mi.Net Mobile Transceiver as a vehicle drives within range. In AMI systems, hourly consumption data is transmitted to a Multi Network Collector (MNC) and delivered to the Sentryx platform for analysis and management.

Utilities can also request on-demand meter readings at any time. In AMI systems, these readings are typically delivered within seconds. In AMR systems, the reading is retrieved when a Mobile Transceiver enters communication range.

Optimized Network Performance

Advanced noise filtering technology allows the Mi.Net system to maximize communication range while minimizing infrastructure requirements.

Multiple communication paths help ensure meter data is reliably delivered to the system, improving data availability and overall network performance.

Designed for Harsh Environments

The Mi.Node M is built for long-term reliability in demanding field environments.

Multiple moisture barriers protect the device from water intrusion in meter pits and other challenging installations. A high-capacity lithium battery provides long operational life to support years of dependable service.

Remote Disconnect Meter Support

The Mi.Node M communicates with Mueller’s Remote Disconnect Meter (RDM) to allow utilities to securely turn water service on or off.

This function can be:

  • Performed in the field through the AMR mobile application
  • Monitored in real-time in the office

This capability enables utilities to respond more quickly to service requests while improving operational efficiency
